5 months since I have updated this blog, no biggie. Problem is my progress reset. My discipline was not there. So I needed to fix it, but first I wanted to find where it went wrong. Let me tell you, when you're in a gym routine and all of the sudden, become injured and can't really go anymore because you don't know how to work around it, it bites you in the ass. From that, I went to a wedding and unfortunately ended up catching feelings with a bridesmaid. Now I'm not here to blame her or say women are the root of my falling apart, but correlation = causation sometimes, right?
Well I ended up having a mixture of a rough few months, but also extremely fun? I moved into a new place into Columbus, realized that I didn't like it and wanted to move to Florida, which is where I have always wanted to be, so I spent 7-8k on my lease buyout and the process of moving to Florida and now here I am. I stupidly, even though I am madly in love with it, took out a loan to buy a motorcycle. I went to Miami for a world cup game with a big group of friends, took lots of pictures with cars and was pretty much glued to the hip of 2 of my new really great friends. I ended up going back into contact with my ex. I stopped going to the gym and I wasn't working on myself, as cliche as it sounds. I wasn't happy with the work I was doing at my job. I wanted change.
Moving to Florida has so far given me that change. I thought I was going to have a lot of fun and really work on my life and becoming the version of myself I wanted to be. The fun part, not so much. The area I moved really does not have much to do. I wasn't mad about that, however. I decided to take this opportunity to do a few things. First, learn discipine. Second, learn more responsibility. Third, figure out what I want out of life.
With that being said, I have been working hard on keeping a clean living situation, a strict sleeping schedule, good eating habits, good monetary habits and budgeting, and finally learning how I should set goals, because well, why not me?
People struggle with cleanliness all of the time, why? Because it's grueling and nobody likes to do it, and for some people it "takes up too much time". Well I am here to tell you that final part is bullshit, you just have to budget your time effectively and use tools that automate cleaning to your advantage. I invested in a roomba vacuum that vacuums and mops my whole apartment, and when you have a high shedding dog this is a lifesaver. Dishes? The second I am finished either cooking or eating, I am either washing the pan in the sink instantly or putting the dishes in the dishwasher. Dusting? Just invest in a hefty air purifier and the dust within your home will drastically reduce. Keeping a clean home isn't difficult, but it keeps your mind in check and helps with your discipline.
I am almost always going to bed at 11p and waking up at 6a. Why? Well, it becomes harder for me to stay up at night even getting just slightly older, and I love waking up before it not only gets light out, but before most of the population is awake. I tend to have a routine of shower, take supplements, dog outside, dog and my own breakfast, then I journal, and finally study for the LSAT. Since I am in school now and not currently employed, I have a lot more freetime until I get a job. But for now, I enjoy this routine. I always try to go to the gym around noon since I have had fuel in my body and I have been awake for a while. I also have tried to structure my routine around the possibility of me having a full time 8/9-5 job. Usually after the gym, I complete my work for classes, then at night I wind down my watching movies, going for a walk with my dog, reading, or vidoe games. It's honestly a good and very productive day. I work hard, and I can work less because the quality of my work is better when I have this type of routine.
Food is fuel. So what do I fuel my body with? Breakfast is always high protein, something egg based with some carbs. Maybe multigrain bread, with peanut butter on it. Around 10a, I usually eat some sort of snack and since I am a big advocate of the gym and hitting my protein goal for the day, I tend to buy and eat the high protein snacks. Those dumb little things that promote high protein? Yup, I'm the guy buying it. It can get expensive but this is where the good money habits come in. What do you value? What do you put emphasis on? For me, one thing is the gym and food, so I spend a good chunk of money on that. I need gas, but I haven't been driving as much so that's not as much of an issue. I have to do fun things eventually right? Right and I will, but in moderation that doesn't kill me also being able to save or invest money.
With that being said, how do I set goals? Well first I needed to do some digging of what I wanted out of life. I want money, intelligence, authority, power, and a great family. So that instantly gives me a sense of how I should set goals. The one thing I have learned about goals is they need to be SMART--specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. I've set a 3 month plan, 6 month plan, 12 month plan, 3 year plan, and finally a 5 year plan. That's for me to know and to eventually explain to you. But what is this 3 month plan? It consists of goals I can do within those 3 months. Well, I want to end my first masters semester with at least a 3.8 GPA, ideally a 4.0, I would like to get a job, increase my LSAT score by about 5 points, and I would like to build some sort of application that at least one person uses. That last one isn't obviously super specific, but is still something I have wanted to do.
With that being said, I think I am on a good path for these things. I am finally getting into the right mindset and habits, and the hardest part about discipline is starting, and I have done that.
Life isn't perfect, sometimes this routine will change, but all I can do is adjust and adapt, and when I get beaten down, just get back up. Only have one life to try, so fuck it, might as well.
Life is not about how many times you fall down. It's about how many times you get back up. -Jaime Escalante
